San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is in the concussion protocol, putting his status in doubt for this week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy reported symptoms on the flight home after Monday night’s loss at Minnesota and was placed in the protocol.

Purdy is feeling better Wednesday and will be able to participate in a portion of San Francisco’s walkthrough practice but will still have to clear several protocols to play against Cincinnati on Sunday.

“He definitely has plenty of time,” Shanahan said. “He just has to go through the process.”

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is going through the NFL’s concussion protocol after suffering a head injury during the team’s Monday night loss to the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed on Wednesday.

Symptoms

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been placed in the concussion protocol, according to ESPN’s Nick Wagner.

Purdy began experiencing concussion-like symptoms upon returning to San Francisco following Monday night’s 22-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium.

It appeared the Iowa State product suffered a head injury to the quarterback during Monday’s game.

Purdy played the entire game, completing 21 of 30 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown against two interceptions. He also rushed for 19 yards on five carries in San Francisco’s second loss of the season.

The second-year signal-caller being placed in the concussion protocol has cast some doubt over his availability for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Levi’s Stadium.
