When she started school, Griner was older than most of her peers. She was bullied for her childish physique and low voice, which badly affected her confidence. Griner told ESPN:
“I never wanted to speak in class. I didn’t want to hear myself; I hated the way I sounded. I couldn’t hear. They teased me about everything, my different voice, my stature , my chest. I’ve always been flat-chested.”
Brittany released her frustrations on the volleyball court, tossing the ball with all the aggression she could muster. Not one to stand by, Griner got in trouble for whipping and fighting. Griner told ESPN that she regrets the moments when she didn’t fight back.
