Brittany Yvette Griner (born October 18, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).[1] She played college basketball for the Baylor Lady Bears in Waco, Texas.[2][ 3] He is the only NCAA basketball player to score 2,000 points and block 500 shots. [4] In 2012, the three-time All-American was named AP Player of the Year and Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player.

Griner is the daughter of Sandra Griner. He has three elder siblings. [13]

Griner attended Nimitz High School in Houston. In addition to lettering in basketball throughout high school, he played varsity volleyball as a freshman. Beginning in his sophomore year, Griner practiced with the boys’ basketball team, and worked with a Nimitz football coach to develop leg strength in preparation for learning to sink. [14] During her junior season, a YouTube video featuring her dunk had over 2.7 million views, [15] which led to a meeting with Shaquille O’Neal. [16]

During her senior year, Griner led the Nimitz Cougars to the Texas 5A Girls Basketball State Championship game, where Nimitz lost 52–43 at Mansfield Summit High School. Griner stung 52 times in 32 games as a senior, and set a record for seven dunks in a single game against Aldine High School. [17] Houston Mayor Bill White declared May 7, 2009 Brittany Griner Day. [18] On November 11, 2008, he recorded 25 blocks in a game against Houston Elif Hastings, the highest in any high school game in the US. That was the most number of blocks recorded by a woman. In his 2008–09 season, he recorded 318 blocks, a season record.

Griner was named a WBCA All-American and participated in the 2009 WBCA High School All-America Game, leading the team by scoring 20 points and collecting 9 rebounds.

WNBA star Brittany Griner’s lawyer said Friday that her pre-trial custody in Russia has been extended by a month.

Griner’s attorney, Alexander Boikov, told The Associated Press that he believed the relatively short extension of custody indicated the case would come up for hearing soon.

A Russian court has extended by another month the pre-trial custody of American basketball star Brittany Griner held since February on drug trafficking charges, Russian state news agency TASS reported on Friday.

TASS quoted the court’s press service as saying that Griner, who the US government said was being wrongfully detained, could now be held in pre-trial detention until at least June 18, Moscow’s A court in Khimki outside delivered the verdict on Friday.
