Brittany Yvette Griner (born October 18, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).[1] She played college basketball for the Baylor Lady Bears in Waco, Texas.[2][ 3] He is the only NCAA basketball player to score 2,000 points and block 500 shots. [4] In 2012, the three-time All-American was named AP Player of the Year and Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player.

While it is still unclear whether Griner is a transsexual, she has a history of public outings. In fact, her father was not supportive of her coming out as gay, and did not support the idea when she first came out.

The New York Times and Russian news agency TASS first reported that Griner was taken into custody after Customs Service officials said they found vape cartridges containing hashish oil in his luggage at Sheremetyevo airport. Customs Service also released a video of a man at the airport who appears to be grinning passing through security.

The WNBA issued a statement saying that the league would continue to support Griner and that its top priority was “his speedy and safe return to the United States”. A spokesperson for the league told The New York Times that all WNBA players except Griner were based out of Russia and Ukraine.

Griner attended Nimitz High School in Houston. In addition to lettering in basketball throughout high school, he played varsity volleyball as a freshman. Beginning in his sophomore year, Griner practiced with the boys’ basketball team, and worked with a Nimitz football coach to develop leg strength in preparation for learning to sink. During her senior year, Griner led the Nimitz Cougars to the Texas 5A Girls Basketball State Championship game, where Nimitz lost 52–43 at Mansfield Summit High School. [18] On November 11, 2008, he recorded 25 blocks in a game against Houston Elif Hastings, the highest in any high school game in the US. That was the most number of blocks recorded by a woman. In his 2008–09 season, he recorded 318 blocks, a season record.
