For context, Kelly grew up in Massachusetts outside of Boston, attending university and coaching at Assumption College in Worcester before moving to the Midwest for most of her college career.

In 1987, he moved to Grand Valley State in Michigan, jumped to Central Michigan in 2004, Cincinnati in 2006, and Notre Dame in 2010. Cincinnati is the farthest South they have trained for by a good margin.

Perhaps the most interesting takeaway: Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lee, a former assistant to Kelly, who says Kelly “adopting his accent will be part of his success.” Based on the video of that statement, it is not clear whether he was serious or not.

Time will tell if Brian Kelly can repeat the success he enjoyed at Notre Dame in Baton Rouge, and do what Orgeron did in 2019: give LSU fans a national title. If nothing else, the past few days proved that he would do a solid job for the rest of the college football world, providing plenty of fodder as he navigates a very new culture on the bayou.

Jeff Foxworthy mocks LSU football coach Brian Kelly for attempting to fake Southern accent

Comedian Jeff Foxworthy appeared as a guest on “The Paul Finebaum Show” with Paul Finebaum on Friday, and the first thing that Feinbaum asked Foxworthy was the efforts of new LSU football head coach Brian Kelly in a Southern accent.

At Wednesday night’s LSU men’s basketball game, Kelly spoke to fans off the court at halftime. During the speech, Kelly sometimes began to use a Southern accent. This was most evident during the use of the word “family”.

Kelly’s hometown is Everett, Massachusetts, and he played college football at Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Feinbaum asked Foxworthy, “For someone who has made fun of Southerners, I wanted to ask you about a guy who grew up on the other side of the Mystic River in Boston. He spent most of his career in the Midwest. – Last 12 (years) at Notre Dame. Became a citizen of Baton Rouge …”

Foxworthy nodded and said, “For an hour and a half.”

Feinbaum continued, saying, “And last night, was it my imagination or was he trying to speak South-Age at that basketball game.”

Basketball speech

Former Cincinnati Bearcats head coach Brian Kelly has had a crucial week: he decided to leave Notre Dame for the LSU Tigers; He apologized to Fighting Irish players for a late night text sent on Monday night, indicating that he was sorry he found out via social media and wanted to share the news in person, saying that his love for them is boundless; He addressed the team personally on Tuesday morning, reportedly for less than two minutes; He was introduced as the new head coach of the Tigers; He spoke to a crowd at the LSU men’s basketball team’s game against Ohio on Wednesday night — tweeted by many — who had not previously been heard from the Massachusetts native; And he appeared on Thursday night at the women’s basketball game against Iowa State in Baton Rouge.

Social media reactions to Kelly wasted no time trying to adapt to her new surroundings with a brand new Louisiana accent.

Kelly, on the other hand, became Notre Dame’s most winning coach in the history of this season. Kelly has coached at Notre Dame since 2010, and has had two college football playoff appearances, and could add another this year (if he lasts through the rest of the season).

LSU’s previous three coaches, Orgeron, Les Miles and Nick Saban, all won national titles for the school. So, the stakes are high. Kelly has not won a national title at Notre Dame.

With that, here’s what you need to know about Kelly’s alleged jump from Notre Dame to LSU

LSU and Scott Woodward are on Brian Kelly as the next football coach and his contract is a testament to that fact.

LSU and Kelly agreed on a 10-year, $95 million contract, but the performance comes with a number of incentives and important notes. It is an agreed deal that given all the details, it will be extremely difficult for the program to move on from Kelly if expectations are not met.

In a public records request, Sports Illustrated’s Ross Delanger was able to grab the details of the contract.
