Brian Keith Kelly (born October 25, 1961) is an American football coach who is currently the head coach at LSU. He was announced as the head coach of the Tigers on November 30, 2021.[2] Kelly previously served at Grand Valley State University (1991–2003), Central Michigan University (2004–2006), University of Cincinnati (2006–2009). ) and served as head football coach at the University of Notre Dame (2010–2021). He led Grand Valley State to consecutive NCAA Division II football championships in 2002 and 2003. Kelly’s 2012 Notre Dame team reached the 2013 BCS National Championship game, while his 2018 and 2020 teams made appearances in the College Football Playoff (CFP).

Kelly, on the other hand, became Notre Dame’s most winning coach in the history of this season. Kelly has coached at Notre Dame since 2010, and has had two college football playoff appearances, and could add another this year (if he lasts through the rest of the season).

Kelly’s move from Notre Dame to LSU has to do with one thing: Challenging for a national championship. More specifically, it has to do with better recruiting. It looks like Kelly has seven seasons with the Fighting Irish with 10 or more wins, including five straight. He has also made the college football playoffs twice, in 2018 and ’20 and, prior to that, was a participant in the 2013 BCS Championship Game.

But Fighting Irish were scrambled in all those appearances, losing to Alabama (2012 and 2020) and Clemson (2018) by combined scores of 103-31 – an average margin of 24 points lost per game. They haven’t won the equivalent of 6 bowl games on New Year’s Day since the Cotton Bowl’s 24-21 win over Texas A.

He will replace Ed Orgeron, who in October agreed to split with LSU after this season.

The decision appeared to blind both their current players and their staff members at Notre Dame.

Brian Kelly is set to make a fortune as LSU’s next head coach. Earlier on Monday, it was reported that LSU is hiring Kelly away from Notre Dame, although there has been no official confirmation from the Tigers.

Kelly was born in Everett, Massachusetts, and raised in a Catholic Irish-American family in Chelsea, Massachusetts.[3] He attended St. John’s Preparatory School in Denver, Massachusetts. His father was a Boston politician. [4] He was a four-year club football player at Guess College as a linebacker. After graduating from Asception in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in political science, he served as a linebackers coach, defensive coordinator and softball coach from 1983 to 1986.

Kelly joined the staff at Grand Valley State University in 1987 as Tom Beck’s graduate assistant and defensive backs coach, and became defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator in 1989. Kelly took over as head coach in 1991. The Lakers went 41 in their final three seasons. -2, winning 20 consecutive games at a time. The Lakers went 14–0 on the way to their first national title in 2002 and went 14–1 in 2003 when they claimed their second national championship. Kelly was named AFCA Division II Coach of the Year after each of these championship years.

In his 13 years as head coach at Grand Valley State, the Lakers won five conference titles and made six Division II playoff appearances. Only in 1999 did Grand Valley State finish less than third in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference under Kelly.

The 2001 team set 77 NCAA, GLIAC, and school records, including setting an all-time Division II scoring record, averaging 58.4 points per game.

His record in 13 years at Grand Valley State is 118-35-2.
