Mangiero said. “This is an example of Brian’s leadership. It takes courage because sometimes it’s not popular. He did it during his junior and senior years and everyone saw him as a leader in Poly Prep.

“He came up with this really great value system that was instilled in him at a young age. His mother is just a wonderful woman. His father was like a merchant marine; he was on a ship for eight months. He Wasn’t around a lot. So Brian had to take the lead in the family and mom always believed in higher education. Absolutely, she got that core and that foundation from her family. Brian’s two brothers played for me, Danny and Louis. They were just like that, very respectable, very hardworking. Mom and dad put that in them. They got to do something really special in this country and they really took advantage because all three of them are doing really well.”

Flores and Manguero developed such a bond that Flores said during Super Bowl week that he doesn’t make any major decisions without talking to his old coach. And Mangueiro made it a point to fly to New Jersey on Monday for Flores’ press conference in Davie.
