Ferentz, the son of head coach Kirk Ferentz, is in his seventh season as offensive coordinator. Their unit’s production has never been very good, having been in a steady decline for three years running.

University of Iowa interim athletic director Beth Goetz said in a statement that she informed offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz that “this is his last season with the program.”
Ferentz would remain the offensive coordinator through the bowl game.
Goetz’s full statement is below.
“Anyone who loves Iowa football recognizes both the success and challenges that have plagued our program this season. Our struggles on offense with the offensive coordinator’s contract make this a unique situation.
After conversations with head coach Kirk Ferentz, coach Brian Ferentz and President Wilson, I informed Brian that he intended for him to stay with us through a bowl game, but that this would be his last season with the program. Telling it today is in the best interest of the show and its loyal fans; “This provides clarity during this critical time for the program,” Goetz said in a statement.
