Home run

Tampa Bay Rays utility player Brett Phillips is one of the most loved personalities in MLB. He is also not known for hitting home runs, which made what he did in the Rays’ recent win was even more incredible.

Few players might promise a home run to a young fan in that scenario. But Phillips isn’t known for killing Homers, so he promised Chloe that he would do something special for her on the field. He expressed after the game that he knew something good was going to happen that night. But even he could not predict the magical moment to come.

And it seems like Chloe really gave him the power. Brett Phillips entered the third inning wearing the bracelet Chloe had worn him.

During Phillips’ at-bat, he was asked who his favorite player is. He replied, “Brett Phillips.” Then asked why she liked him, she replied, declaring, “Because he has the best smile, he always has fun and I like how he does his airplanes.”

Post game interview

Brett Phillips said he is “usually not at a loss for words,” but Tuesday was an exception.

Before the game, the Reese met outfielder Chloe Grimes, 8-year-old, who had been diagnosed with cancer for the second time. He gave his favorite player a wristband to wear during the game against the Athletics, a gruesome one that went into extra innings, and was chosen to throw the first pitch.

With Tampa Bay up two at the bottom of the third inning, Phillips proceeded to bat while Grimes was doing an interview on the Bally Sports Sun broadcast. She told reporter Tricia Whitaker how Phillips was her favorite player, commenting that “she has the best smile ever.” Then, Phillips launched a homer during his interview.

Wife

Brie Phillips is the wife of MLB player Brett Phillips the Seminoles, a Florida native and outfielder for the Tampa Bay Rays, who previously played for the Kansas City Royals and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Prior to this, Brett played for several minor league teams after he was selected in the 2012 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros.

He attended Seminole High School and later planned to plat on North Carolina State University, though he opted to sign with the Astros and drop out of college.

Brett never actually played with the Astros, they traded him to the Brewers and it was with them that he got to make his MLB debut on June 5, 2017 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Milwaukee Brewers traded him to George Lopez in exchange for Mike Mustacas on July 27, 2018.
