Unretired

Tom Brady is back. It’s like he never left. Because, well, his “retirement” lasted about 40 days and included more hints and instincts about getting back into football than anything. Brady never really went away, appearing on podcasts and maintaining a steady social media presence. And if you saw the conversation between him and fellow GOAT (or GOATish) Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United’s match this weekend, it certainly didn’t sound like a person completely comfortable with his decision. (And, given that Man U is owned by the Glazer family, who own the books, one can surmise that Brady may have delivered the message personally, receiving assurances about the cast.)

As it turns out, Brady clearly wasn’t entirely comfortable with walking away. And the NFL is better for it.

Brady had another timeless season in 2021. It was a masterpiece even by his impeccable standards. He flirted with 50 touchdown passes. He led the league in passing. He should have been the MVP. He made another ridiculous comeback season after season which should have been enough for the win. Would any of us be surprised at this point if his age isn’t as remarkable as his 45 season?

I certainly would not. Making face to this as quickly as possible, Brady can recommend for the schedule and regime and lifestyle that fueled this entire ridiculous career of his in the first place. He hasn’t won a single match. It’s not an epiphany at the end of July and trying to get in shape and make up for lost time and navigate a landscape she’s never faced before. This is, in fact, incredibly good for Brady, and the team he bid for a few weeks ago.

Just a month after announcing his retirement, quarterback Tom Brady announced on Sunday that he would return to play for his 23rd season and do so “in Tampa.”

Days after Brady’s retirement plans were reported, the longtime Patriots and Books QB announced his retirement via social media on February 1. But doubts began almost immediately as to how long Brady would actually be off the field.

Brady’s retirement lasted a full 40 days – although it was never official as it never came up in the string of league transactions. NFL Network’s Tom Pelicero reported that he is under contract with Tampa Bay, “but it’s a placeholder year of about $10.4 million.” Pelicero said it would make sense for the Bucs to do what they did ahead of the 2021 season and add a year to Brady’s contract in which he would be paid among the NFL’s top quarterbacks.

The Buccaneers left the door open for Brady to return and now return to his position as NFC South favorite and Super Bowl contender when he won the Super Bowl in 2020 and the division with Brady in 2021.

“Total excitement,” Bucks head coach Bruce Arian texted NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport on Sunday.

“Tom Brady loves playing football as much as I’ve ever been,” Arians said in a statement later. “As Tom said, his place is on the football field right now. He is still playing at a championship level and last season was as productive as anyone in the league. We are happy that he has continued to play and has another one. Decided to work towards winning the championship.”

Brady’s return was likely also the reason the Bucs did not offer the Houston Texans a trade for quarterback Deshan Watson, Rapoport reported.

In the midst of an incredibly busy game Sunday, Brady announced the end of his 40-day retirement and his return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The move now throws the entire NFL into chaos and immediately begs the question of which team is the NFC South favorite for the 2022 season.

Soccer fans were stunned, especially rude as the fan who thought Brady’s last touchdown paid an exorbitant amount for all of us. What’s even more funny is that just hours before the announcement, Brady and Cristiano Ronaldo had a conversation about a suspicious, but hilarious, end of the line for the 44-year-old quarterback.

Of course, fans weren’t the only ones surprised by Brady’s announcement! NFL players have had their fair share of hilarious and shocking reactions to the news on Twitter.
