Why was ejected
The North Carolina Tar Heels prevailed against Baylor in overtime of Saturday’s NCAA Tournament game, but a controversial caretaker decision nearly cost them.
With the Tar Heels 25 ahead and about 10 minutes remaining, North Carolina star Brady Manek was deemed a major 2 foul on replays. Manek threw an elbow while boxing, but many felt that Flagrant 2 and Ejection were too harsh in terms of play, considering Baylor’s Jeremy Sochan as the agitator.
The Tar Heels went into freefall after the ejection. Part of this seemed to come as officials began to call the game more tightly, with Baylor benefiting from more than one foul call. Baylor made a 25-point deficit and led the game to overtime, but eventually ran out of gas and lost 93–86.
Manek was heading for a big game with 26 points in 27 minutes. His absence certainly hurt the Tar Heels, but he would be ready to move to Sweet 16 when his teammates braced for him.

Then the tide turned as UNC’s Brady Manek was hit with a flagrant 2 foul on a box-out. Manek reaches back in the process, elbowing Baylor’s Jeremy Sochan. It looked like a normal play at second glance, but the referee went to the monitor.
