Suspension

Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand has been suspended for six games for roughing and high sticking against Pittsburgh Penguins goalkeeper Tristan Jerry.

NHL Player Safety announced the ban on Wednesday night after a personal hearing with Marchand.

Marchand had already been suspended for three games earlier this season after he kicked Oliver Ackman-Larsen in the foot. This will be the eighth suspension of Marchand’s career and the longest after the first two five-match bans.

That Marchand is a double-offender who decides to make it a six-game suspension in an NHL Player Safety decision.

“Players who repeatedly violate the rules of league play will be severely punished for each new violation,” PlayerSafety noted in a video, citing the terms of the NHL/NHLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement. “Marchand has been suspended seven times, and fined five times previously.”

The incident between Marchand and Jerry happened during Pittsburgh’s 4-2 win over Boston on Tuesday. The Bruins were trailing two with less than a minute to play in regulation, and Jari had just strangled a puck. Marchand was around, and after it appeared that Zari had said something to Marchand, the Bruins winger pounced on him.

Punch

Brad Marchand, the Bruins forward, whose opposing and often dirty game earned him a reputation as one of the NHL’s pre-eminent pests, added another incident to his low-light reel on Tuesday night when he punched And then finally penguins incited goalkeeper Tristan Jerry. Matchup of two teams in Boston.

Jerry did not appear injured. At the postgame news conference, he dismissed the incident as “the heat of the moment” and “part of the game, something that stays on the ice”.

Meanwhile, Marchand was assessed a match penalty and is likely facing the eighth suspension of his NHL career.

Suspended

The NHL suspended Bruins forward Brad Marchand six games to Penguins goalkeeper Tristan Jerry for an incident (slashing and punching). If this does not constitute throwing the book at Marchand, the often suspended star-moth is struck with at least a few pages.

It is the longest suspension of Brad Marchand’s harrowing, productive career.

The NHL considered it “rough and high-sticking”. You can watch the league’s explanation in the video above.

By Adam Gretz’s count, this is the eighth time the NHL has suspended Marchand, and the 11th case of league discipline (with three fines).

Frankly, it’s easy to lose track of how many events he’s been involved in. After all, there are actions that carry fines and suspensions, but also lots of other nonsense.

Penguins

During the game itself, Marchand received a match penalty with intent to injure Tristan Jari.

This was the hottest conversation between Marchand and Zari, including this awkward moment of trolling.

The Bruins then embark on a six-game road trip when Marchand is about to return from his suspension. While it is unlikely that the Bruins will drop out of the playoff spot, this should not reduce their chances of improving in the seeding.

It also adds to the history of Marchand’s suspension. In umm the relevant, likely event is that he will continue to exercise a lack of impulse control.
