Throw chair

Indiana fans were always waiting for Bob Knight to lose his temper. It was as much a part of Hoosiers basketball under Knight as the wins.

On February 23, 1985, it didn’t take long.

Five minutes into the game against rival Purdue, Knight committed a technical foul and then casually turned around, picked up a chair and threw it toward Boilermakers guard Steve Reed.

This became a defining moment in Knight’s historic career.

“At times my passion for basketball has led me to conflicts that I could have handled much better,” Knight said in a statement before taking the Texas Tech job in 2000. “I’ve always been too confrontational, especially when I know I’m right. I know as much as anyone: I need to develop a more diplomatic approach. I’m not very good at forgetting something and moving on, And I’m really sorry about that.”
