Bob Jerry Lanier Jr. was an American professional basketball player who played center for the Detroit Pistons and the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association. Lanier was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992.

NBA’s big man and Hall of Famer Bob Lanier passed away on Tuesday. The news was made public by an NBA statement. The NBA said that the 73-year-old left-handed center had passed away after a short illness. In 2019, The Athletic reported that the legendary center was undergoing cancer treatment.
Lanier was an eight-time All-Star and had reached the top of the game during the times of basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

He worked as a global ambassador for the league. He had played 14 seasons in the NBA before taking retirement in 1984. He played nine seasons for Detroit Pistons and five seasons for Milwaukee Bucks.
Playing for the 14 seasons, Lanier averaged 20.1 points per game. Besides, he averaged 10.1 rebounds. He was also the MVP of the 1974 All-Star Game. Besides, he was chosen for the NBA’s J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award for his exemplary community service during the 1977-78 season.
