In addition to being named Big Ten champion in the pentathlon and heptathlon, Nickel’s wife was named the Academic All-Big Ten.

She won the Big Ten title in the heptathlon with a score of 5839. Maddy also won the hept 200m and hept long jump.

Sherdog

The three-time NCAA wrestling champion presented Zachary Borrego with a first-round rear-neck choke to highlight Week 3 of Dana White’s Contender Series on Tuesday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Nickel executed an immediate takedown, threatened with a standing guillotine, basically transitioned to the back and went down a bit on the fight-ending choke. It took a total of 62 seconds. Borrego (4-1) never stood a chance. Nevertheless, UFC President Dana White stopped welcoming Nickel to the UFC and instead offered him the opportunity to return later in Season 6, where the American top-team-trained blue-chip prospect won his second win for promotion. Could punch tickets. ,

Although Nickel largely superseded him, three other candidates earned contracts for the UFC: Eric Silva, Clayton Carpenter and Jamal Pogues.

A Costa Rica-based Brazilian wild ground and pound, Silva dispatched Legacy Fighting Alliance alum Anwar Boynazarov with elbows and punches in the first round of his featherweight affair. The unintentional victim of an all-out route, Boynazarov (3-1) was checked out in Round 1 in 1:32.

Silva (9-1) swooped in for a takedown inside the first 15 seconds, pinned the Muay Thai stylist to the canvas and hit the accelerator. He dropped several elbows, forcing Boynazarov to avoid further punishment and cut through with punches until referee Mike Beltran saw enough.

Bo Nickel surprisingly did not earn a UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series 49, but he is confident he will reach his goal.

Nickel (2-0) was a massive favorite against Zachary Borrego and looked like he ran through his opponent in a little over a minute in Tuesday’s headliner at the UFC Apex.

But despite being in the hype, White chose not to offer Nickel the contract. Instead, he invited her for another opportunity in the Contender series.

“It’s all good,” Nickel said at the news conference after the fight with reporters, including MMA junkies. “I’m just excited. I’m always grateful for the opportunity to compete, so get out there, another ‘dub,’ and I’ll have to fight soon – so all right. And I’ve said this many times before.” But the goal is not to become a UFC fighter.

“I’m here to be the UFC champion [and] the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. So I’m 2-0. I have a total of a minute and a half of professional MMA competition, so let’s get there another one. Me Don’t really care if it’s on the Contenders Series, in the UFC, whatever. I just want to fight.”

Nickel’s quick end appears to be a lock for a UFC contract, but the standout wrestler was hoping to show more of his game.
