Celtics contract
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, veteran forward Blake Griffin has agreed to a one-year, fully guaranteed deal with the Boston Celtics. Griffin, 33, who spent the past season and a half with the Brooklyn Nets, was a free agent even after training camps opened in the league.
The Celtics suffered two major frontcourt injuries prior to the season. Danilo Gallinari tore his ACL while playing for Italy in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers and will likely miss the entire season, while Robert Williams III underwent surgery on his knee and is expected to miss at least 8-12 weeks.
Entering camp, Al Horford and Grant Williams were the only true frontcourt substitutes for the Celtics who had seen significant time last season. Luke Cornet is expected to play a bigger role in Williams’ absence, but he only appeared in 12 games last season and it is unclear whether he can step into a bigger role. Former first-round pick Mfiondu Kabengele signed a two-way contract with the team over the summer, while Noah Vonleh and Luka Samnik were invited to training camp; Kabenzele shined in the summer but it is a question mark, while Vonleh and Samanik may not even be in the team.
