According to a lawsuit filed by former Dolphins head coach and former Patriots assistant coach Brian Flores, Bill Belichick incorrectly texted Bryan to congratulate him on getting the job to head the Giants.
The lawsuit featured text messages sent by Belichick to Flores congratulating him for landing the Giants job on January 24. That text was actually sent to Floors two days before the job interview.
After Flores was initially confused by the text message, he asked Belichick, “Coach, are you talking to Brian Flores or Brian Dabol. Just making sure.”
Belichick replied: “Sorry – I f-ed it. I double checked.

On Tuesday afternoon, the football world learned that former Miami Dolphins coach Brian Flores has filed a lawsuit against the NFL.
Former Dolphins coach files race discrimination class action lawsuit against NFL to shed light on racial injustice. In one specific example, he used text messages from New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick.
In a text exchange between Belichick and Flores, the former congratulated him on landing the New York Giants head coaching gig three days before the interview. Belichick later apologized and said that Brian Dabol would get the job.
Belichick’s knowing that Dabol was getting the job three days before Brian Flores’ interview raises an important question. Was Flores getting the interview to satisfy the Rooney Rule.
Fans are already coming to Flores’s defense, cheering him on for his lawsuit against the league.

The NFL also addressed the claims inside the suit… calling them “without merit.”
“The NFL and our clubs are deeply committed to ensuring equal employment practices and continue to make progress in providing equal opportunities across our organizations. Diversity is critical to everything we do, and some issues such as which our club and our internal leadership team should spend more time on. We will defend against these claims, which are without merit.”
The New York Giants have responded to Flores’ lawsuit… and they stand by the hiring process.
“We are pleased and confident with the process that resulted in the hiring of Brian Dabol. We interviewed an impressive and diverse group of candidates. The fact is, Brian Flores was in talks to be our head coach until the eleventh hour Ultimately, we hired the person we felt was most qualified to be our next head coach.”
