Super bowl rings
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick won six Super Bowl titles, nine AFC championships, 17 division titles and many, many games during the 20 years in which he coached Tom Brady from 2000 to 2019.
Would he have enjoyed the same level of success in New England in that period without Brady?
“Absolutely not,” Belichick said at a news conference on Friday.
Belichick said, “I think I’ve been told dozens of times on the record that I don’t have a quarterback instead of Tom Brady. I still feel the same way. I was lucky enough to have Tom as quarterback and Coached him. He (of the quarterback) was as good as any coach could ask for.”
Belichick is the best coach in NFL history. That said, if Brady hadn’t been their quarterback for two decades, his Hall of Fame would start all over again. So, she is absolutely right with these comments.
Brady reveals what he expects from Patriots fans in return at Gillette Stadium
The same can be said for Brady. If Belichick had not been his coach and had not drafted/signed/traded so many quality players over the past 20 years, Brady would not have had the talent needed to win a Super Bowl title in such a long period.
This is one reason why the Brady vs. Belichick debate can be so exhausting. The simple answer is that both men needed each other to achieve all the success they had together.
They will go down as opponents for the first time on Sunday night when the Patriots host Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a Week 4 matchup at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 pm. ET on NBC10 Boston.
Laughing
Every time the camera turns to the legendary head coach on the sidelines, he has a stoic, grumpy demeanor that almost looks like he just doesn’t want to be there. During his press conference, Belichick grumbles his way without the slightest sign of happiness. It almost makes people wonder if he has ever laughed, or smiled alone, in his entire life.
If one person knows how to make a coach laugh like an idol, though, it’s Tom Brady, his old partner in crime. Brady and Belichick worked together for 20 years, and Brady once revealed the short list of topics that could really baffle Belichick.
