Suspension:

The Ben Simmons situation has taken yet another ugly turn. On Tuesday, the 76ers announced that Simmons has been suspended for one game because of “conduct detrimental to the team” and will not play in Philadelphia’s regular-season opener against New Orleans.

Simmons hasn’t earned any money since returning to the team on Oct. 11. By being suspended for Wednesday’s game, Simmons will lose roughly another $227,000. Simmons’ reluctance to physically and mentally engage with the Sixers since his return has been a consistent theme, sources told Wojnarowski.

Press Conference:

The insane, surreal summer of Simmons came to a head on Tuesday as Ben Simmons was tossed from practice, suspended a game, and dodged his scheduled media availability one day before the Sixers’ season opener against the Pelicans.

And shortly after practice closed, Joel Embiid gave the press conference of a lifetime.

If the Sixers sent him home, then he would be entitled to his check. Instead, the Sixers stayed true to their word of trying to make things work and, if Simmons is healthy, having him in the lineup.

Simmons has been suspended for at least one game, but the question begs, what happens now?

Obviously, the team would beat his ass if they could, and frankly, that is what needs to happen.

Trade:

On opening day of the 2021-22 season, news broke that 76ers coach Doc Rivers threw the three-time All-Star out of practice and that he’ll be suspended for one game for “detrimental conduct” to the team.

What happened? ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Simmons “declined several times to sub into a drill,” adding that his “reluctance to physically and mentally engage” with the 76ers has been a consistent theme since he has returned to the team.
