Benjamin David Simmons (born 20 July 1996) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for one season with the LSU Tigers, after which he was named a unanimous first-team All-American and USBWA National Freshman of the Year. Simmons was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. After sitting out a year due to a right foot injury, he was named NBA Rookie of the Year in 2018 and was selected to the NBA All-Star Game three times. This stretch began on January 3, when the Philadelphia 76ers faced the Houston Rockets and Simmons was used more than ever as a screener and roll man. Fast forward to Monday, and he had the best all-around game of his career to lead the Sixers past the Brooklyn Nets, 117-111.

Simmons finished the game by tying his career-high 34 points on 12-of-14 shooting, and set season-highs in makes and attempts at the free throw line by going 10-of-14. He added 12 rebounds, 12 assists with only 3 turnovers, 5 steals and 2 blocks.

Hurt

The Brooklyn Nets will be without Ben Simmons when they take on the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night due to a left knee injury, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Simmons was downgraded from probable to doubtful a day before the report came out.

The guard returned Monday with a win against the Utah Jazz after missing 38 games because of back strain.

He scored 10 points to go with 11 assists and eight rebounds – and made all five field goals – but played only 18 minutes off the bench due to a minutes restriction.

Brittney Griner

Things are finally starting to look like normal for Brittney Griner, who had a rough year last year. The WNBA star recently signed a one-year contract extension with the Phoenix Mercury after being inactive for a year due to her detention in Russia. However, it may still take some time for Griner to gain fans’ acceptance, as he faced severe criticism upon signing a deal with Mercury. It’s only been a few days since the incident and fans have already taken aim at Griner for another reason.

When POTUS Joe Biden announced that Russia released Brittany Griner after detaining her for nearly 10 months, fans rejoiced. Several hours after Biden’s announcement, Griner’s wife Cherelle arrived at an Arizona airport to welcome Griner back home. An emotional Cherelle couldn’t hold back her tears as the couple finally embraced each other after going through a tough few months.
