Ben Lee McAdoo is an American football coach and currently a consultant for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. McAdoo was previously the head coach of the New York Giants from 2016 to 2017, after serving as their offensive coordinator the previous two years under former head coach Tom Coughlin.

Career:

McAdoo will be named to his new position once contract details are worked out, a league source told ESPN on Friday. He will replace Joe Brady, who was fired with five games left in the season.

Running backs coach Jeff Nixon finished the season as Carolina’s playcaller, but he never was under serious consideration after the Panthers averaged 13.6 points per game under him.

Packers:

Rhule reportedly talked to eight or nine candidates, some from the college ranks, before settling on McAdoo. Rhule actually considered adding McAdoo to his staff as a senior offensive assistant when he became the Panthers’ head coach in 2020.

McAdoo, 44, spent this past season as a consultant for the Dallas Cowboys. He has 16 years of NFL experience, including two (2016-17) as the head coach of the Giants after two as their offensive coordinator under Tom Coughlin, one of Rhule’s mentors.

Salary:

The details of the contract still need to be worked out, per The Charlotte Observer’s Jonathan Alexander. 

Carolina fired former coordinator Joe Brady at midseason after less than two years with the franchise. He joined the team in 2020 after winning the Broyles Award, given to the best assistant coach in college football, in 2019 when he was with LSU.

McAdoo was born in Homer City, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Homer-Center Junior/Senior High School in 1995. McAdoo attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and earned a degree in health and physical education. Later, he received his master’s degree in kinesiology from Michigan State University.
