2022 lineup
One surprise: Yu likes what she sees from the Todd Plechter-trained Filmy Nest, even though she’s a long shot at 8-1. She is the 24th film to run in the 154 Belmont Stakes, joining Ruthless (1867), Tanya (1905) and Rags to Riches (2007) as the only woman to win the coveted race.
Nest’s history is on his side, as his coach, Todd Placher, helped guide Rags to Riches into the winner’s circle to victory in the first of his three career Belmont Stakes victories. He also has a bloodline that can give him an edge in a 1 1/2-mile run. “Her sir (Carlin) and damsier (AP Indy) scream, and her whole brother (Idol) loves the classic distance,” Yu told Sportsline. She is using the Nest prominently in her 2022 Belmont picks.
