Belmont Stakes: 2022 horses| Time| Analysis and picks

Belmont stakes 2022 horse and jockey with best chance at Elmont race.

The 154th race of the Belmont Stakes is almost upon us, and we have almost all the information we’re going to get about how the eight horses in the field are progressing on race day.

Tuesday’s post position draw was the final major piece of the puzzle as we assess each horse’s chances of winning the third jewel of the Triple Crown.

According to the Belmont Stakes website, Post No. 1 has produced the most number of winners (24) since the race has been held at Belmont Park, which is good news for We The People trainer Rodolph Brissette and jockey Flavian Pratt.

The styles of some horses (and jockeys) are better suited to Belmont Park than others. At 1½ miles, or a lap around Belmont Park’s track, the race is the longest any of these horses could possibly run on dirt.

Analysis and picks

Belmont Stakes: 2022 horses| Time| Analysis and picks

Here’s a full-field analysis for the race, along with the official Belmont Park Morning Line odds.

1. We the People (2-1 – Constitution – Rodolph Brissette / Flavian Pratt – 4:3-0-0 – $230,250) We the People won their first two races at Oakaln Park, propelling them onto the Derby Trail in Arkansas . Derby (G1) where he finished a disappointing seventh with a margin of 2.40–1. That day, he was washed out before the race, ran wide and showed little. Trainer Brissette, who learned his craft in New York while working for Bill Mott, won Peter Pan (G3), where We the People raced him on the lead on a wet track to set up for Belmont. There is a strong chance of rain on Saturday. Contenders for victory.

2. Skippylongstocking (20-1 – superlative – Syfy Joseph Jr. / Manny Franco – 10:2-1-2 – $214,600) Skippylongstocking moved to Preakness by a third at Wood Memorial (G2), where he finished fifth. Both of his victories were at Gulfstream Park, which is the home base of trainer Joseph. In Wood, he left behind Mo Donegal and Early Voting. He would need a much better effort to compete at Belmont. Toss.

Here’s a refresher on these types of bets from Sportsline’s Jodi Demling:

Belmont Stakes Exacta: Choose the first and second place finishers in the correct order. A $2 return on the 2021 Belmont Stakes with Essential Quality and Hot Rod Charlie returned an exact $15.00.

Belmont Stakes Trifecta: Pick the first, second and third place finishers in the correct order. A $1 trifecta returned $21.70 at the 2021 Belmont Stakes with Essential Quality, Hot Rod Charlie and Rombauer.

Belmont Stakes Superfecta: Choose the first-, second-, third- and fourth-ranked winners in the correct order. A $1 superfecta with essential quality, hot rod charlie, rombauer and known agenda delivered a HUGE return of $60.70 in the 2021 Belmont Stakes.
