Chris Cyborg remains the Untouchable inside the Bellator cage, but he had to make up for it this time.

Honolulu’s Neil S. On Saturday night at Blasdale Center, Cyborg retained her featherweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Arlene Blencowe in the main event of Bellator 279. As in their first bout in Bellator 249, Cyborg defeated Blencowe in the full cage, but was unable to secure a finish this time due to the determination and persistence of featherweight champion Blencowe.

It initially looked like it would be a repeat of their first fight when Cyborg dropped Blencowe in the first round, before an illegal knee to Blencowe’s head caused a break in action before ending the fight and referee Jason Herzog. subtracted one point. From Cyborg. That brief respite allowed Blencowe to recover enough to round out.

Things got better for Blencowe from there, though as in the second and third rounds, Cyborg appeared to be content almost exclusively for a kickboxing match, and while Cyborg certainly landed more and landed big shots, Blenkove was found to have been hit with his right hand. Found a home for him, even knocking the champion out of balance on a couple of occasions.

Chris Cyborg is still the Bellator Women’s Featherweight Champion. Cyborg largely dominated an extremely durable Arlene Blencowe during 25 minutes at Bellator 279 in Honolulu, Hawaii, but it was not without its bits of drama.

The first round played out like a replay of the 2020 clash between the two women, which Cyborg won with a rear-neck choke in the second round. After Blencowe was hit on the legs, Cyborg took down Challenger and looked to once again back down and sink into a choke. The submission in the first fight was Cyborg’s only career submission victory.

A tactical error from the champion helped Blencowe off the hook, Cyborg throwing a knee to the head, while Blencowe was technically a downed opponent. This cut a score for Cyborg and somewhat blurred the key opening frame.

Blencowe proved tough, continuing to fight back even as Cyborg’s punishment piled up. In the middle of the fight, Blencowe sustained a major cut on his left eye that seemed a threat to force the fight to stop. Instead, Blencowe managed to defend the cut and her corner did well to stop the bleeding.
