Barry James Melrose (born July 15, 1956) is a Canadian-American broadcaster and former professional ice hockey player and head coach. Melrose played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) and the National Hockey League (NHL). After retiring from the sport, he became a head coach and is best known for having coached the Los Angeles Kings to the 1993 Stanley Cup Finals. He is a longtime commentator and hockey analyst for ESPN and a contributor to the NHL Network.

A knowledgeable, passionate and enthusiastic hockey analyst, he rejoined ESPN on January 1, 2009, to coincide with the NHL’s Winter Classic game held at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Appears regularly on Melrose Sports Center and ESPNEWS. He and Steve Levy have reported from every Stanley Cup final since 1994.

Melrose left the network in June 2008 to accept the Tampa Bay Lightning head coaching job. His first full-time stint with ESPN began in October 1996. From 1996 to 2002, Melrose also played regular season and playoff games for ESPN and ABC Sports (2000–02). From 2003 to 2004, he provided studio analysis for ABC Sports’ NHL broadcasts.
