Mayfield played collegiate football at Oklahoma, where he earned the Heisman Trophy as a senior, after a stay with Texas Tech.
What happened
Mayfield has had a torn labrum in his left shoulder since September 19, a fractured humerus bone in the same non-throwing arm since October 17, a painful left foot since November 7, and a right knee contusion since Sunday’s 45-7 loss to the New England Patriots.
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said after the game that Mayfield had a knee contusion. Mayfield might have re-entered the game, according to Stefanski. Stefanski explained that he opted against it since the quarterback had been taking a lot of hits and the game was already out of reach. Stefanski stated, “Baker is a competitor.”

Mayfield had a knee contusion against the Patriots this past weekend and was unable to return to the game. He was assisted off the field, and an X-Ray revealed no structural damage. Mayfield then went on to describe the suffering he was experiencing. Mayfield explained, “I caught the nerve on the outside of my leg and it went numb.”
