In a 23–10 win over the Broncos in Week 12, the Panthers selected Sam Darnold in place of Mayfield, who had thrown two picks in a 13–3 loss against the Ravens the previous week.

Darnold, who missed the beginning of the season with an ankle injury, did not have a particularly heavy workload. He only threw 19 times while D’Onta Foreman did the heavy lifting for the Panthers. But they also didn’t turn the ball over, which the Panthers were really looking for.
