A boy accused of murdering schoolgirl Ava White showed “disgusting contempt” after being stabbed, a court has heard.

Verdict

Mrs Justice Yip said she would sentence Boy A on 11 July, but warned Ava’s family that they should be prepared to feel “too young” because of his age.

Ms Newell said: “Knowing that he stabbed her, her behavior is that of someone who is at best, completely unconvinced, least of all, but rather pleased with herself, as if she felt grown up. “
She told jurors that they would have to consider whether the defendant intentionally or accidentally stabbed Ava and whether it was in proper self-defense.
Ms Newell continued: “His age is not a defense, he is not a child in arms, he knows right and wrong.”
She said the boy was “able to make the decision to carry the knife” and “to lie about it”.
Ms Newell said that an hour before her death, Ava was “having the time of her life with her friends”.
