Qualifying 2022
Max Verstappen will start in pole position for Saturday’s sprint race at the Austrian Grand Prix after finishing in pole position in Friday’s qualifying.
The defending world champion edged out Charles Leclerc by just 0.029 seconds, with Carlos Sainz in third, a strong performance from Ferrari.
Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Pérez was fourth – although he would start 13th on the grid after being penalized for exceeding the track limit – while there was further delight for some home fans in the Red Bull ring as Lewis Hamilton and George Russell had each crashed in Q3. ,
Russell finished fourth after Perez’s approval, but seven-time champion Hamilton would start the sprint in ninth.
Racism
Lewis Hamilton is “disgusted and disappointed” by the racist and homophobic abuse directed at fans at the Austrian Grand Prix.
It made an F1 statement ahead of the grand prix, which read: “We have been made aware of reports that some fans have been subjected to completely unacceptable comments by others at the Austrian Grand Prix,” F1 said.
“We take these matters very seriously, have raised them with the promoter and event security, and will speak to those who reported the incidents.
“This kind of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
Seven-time world champion Hamilton has issued a statement on his Instagram.
He said: “Disappointed and disappointed to hear that some fans are facing racism, homosexuality and generally abusive behavior on the circuit this weekend.
Sprint
Max Verstappen sweats hard to win the Austrian Grand Prix sprint race. The Red Bull driver took a dominant victory from pole to flag in his team’s home race at the Red Bull Ring, while behind him Ferrari’s challenge once again turned into an intra-team scrap that the Scuderia would have to resolve if their Have any chance of taking the fight for the Dutchman on Sunday.
In the 24-lap race that decided the grid for Sunday’s main event, Verstappen beat Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in second and third. In doing so, they have further increased their lead in the driver’s position. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton were fourth and eighth for Mercedes, for whom it was a rescue race after a disastrous qualifying session on Friday and tried hard to ensure their drivers got a shot on Sunday.
