Australian Open: Order of play| Draw| When does start

The Australian Open is a tennis tournament held every year in the last fortnight of January at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia. The tournament is the first of four Grand Slam tennis events to be held each year before the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. This includes male and female singles; men’s, women’s and mixed doubles; Junior Championships; and wheelchairs, legends, and exhibition programs. Before 1988, it was played on grass courts, but since then three types of hardcourt surfaces have been used: the green rebound ace from 2007, the blue plexicushion from 2008 to 2019, and the blue greenset from 2020.

Order of play

Australian Open: Order of play| Draw| When does start

Andy Murray and Emma Radukanu will seek a place in the third round of the Australian Open after winning a brilliant first round match in Melbourne.

Murray won his first Australian Open appearance in three years in a five-set victory against Nikoloz Basilashvili, before Radukanu won his tournament debut against Sloane Stephens in a meeting of US Open champions.

Draw

Australian Open: Order of play| Draw| When does start

The draw for the 2022 Australian Open was released four days before the start of the year’s first Grand Slam tournament. Only one of the defending champions will play.

The current No. 1 male player Novak Djokovic has drawn the most attention towards the draw. After being allowed a medical exemption to travel to Australia despite being unconnected for COVID-19, he was denied entry into the country upon arrival. He won an appeal but then his visa was revoked a second time. He lost appeal of that decision on Sunday and was forced to withdraw. He was set to play fellow Serbian Miomir Kekmanovic, world number 78, in the first round.

When does start

The Australian Open kicks off the 2022 Grand Slam tennis calendar as matters on the court focus on uncertainty surrounding Novak Djokovic.

Defending men’s singles champion Djokovic will not defend his title in Melbourne after being kicked out of the country a day before the tournament begins.
