Pitcher injury

Charlie Morton’s World Series came to an abrupt end after breaking his right leg in Tuesday’s Game 1.

The Atlanta Braves starter saw the end of his night on 44 pitches after an awkward follow-through on a pitch at the bottom of the third inning. The Braves later announced that X-rays revealed a right fibula fracture. He will not pitch again in the World Series.

The injury was bad news on a good night for the Braves, who took a 1-0 lead with a 6-2 win at the Fall Classic.

What happened?
Morton nearly fell to the mound after dismissing Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve with a curveball for the first out of the third inning.

It was his last pitch of the night. He left the game after a short meeting on the mound.

Morton was initially injured when a comeback on the ground ball from Yuli Gurrill hurt his right ankle in the previous innings.

The game resulted in the first dismissal of the innings. Morton took two more outs in the second on his injured leg, hitting Chas McCormick and prompting a lineout from Martin Maldonado to end the innings.

He returned to kill Altuve in the third before the pain was too much to bear. In all, Morton threw 16 pitches on his injured leg, including a 96 mph ball in two innings.

Morton ended his night in 2 1/3 innings with three strikes and two walks. The brave batsmen scored two home runs on their way to a 5–0 lead before Morton was forced out of the game.

World series hat

The Braves have made the World Series for the first time in two decades, which means, among other things, fans are required to celebrate the occasion with hats and T-shirts.

After winning Game 6 on Saturday, all the Brave players and coaches got their official merchandise, which became available at retailers around Metro Atlanta on Sunday.

How to Get Tickets to See the Braves at the World Series in Atlanta

The “locker room” hat – which was given to players shortly after the win they celebrated – is gray with a mesh black backing and the 2021 World Series logo on the front. it looks like this:

An optional red version of that hat is also available for purchase, without any mesh backing.

The players were also given identical gray “National League Champion” T-shirts.

World series roster

The Braves announced their 26-man World Series roster ahead of Game 1 against the Astros on Tuesday.

The roster consists of 12 pitchers and 14 position players – and includes a surprise: right-hander Kyle Wright. Wright, 26, has featured in only two major league appearances this season, making seven runs in 6-1/3 innings.

Wright essentially replaces Husker Yono as a right who can provide length (roster-wise, he replaced Jacob Webb). Ynoa is out with a swelling of the shoulder.

The Braves also dropped infielder Johann Camargo from their National League Championship Series roster for speedster Terence Gore. The Braves took Gore to their roster for the Division Series against the Brewers.

It was not a scream liner for the gaps. It was not sent over the fence for a home run. It wasn’t even an infield single beaten at pure speed.

Astros pinch hitter Aldemis Diaz slammed a 98.2 mph fastball off Braves reliever Tyler Matzek at 70.7 mph with the bat with a 39-degree launch angle. The ball traveled 232 feet. Still, in the top of the eighth inning, that was all it took to break United no-hitter Atlanta, spinning against Houston in Game 3 of the World Series.

But that hit was one of only two on the night for the Astros as starter Ian Anderson’s brilliant outing and a shutdown performance from the bullpen calmed their bats. An RBI double from Austin Riley in the third and a single homer by Travis D’Arnaud in the eighth would have required all-run production Atlanta as it won 2-0 on Friday night to take a 2-1 series lead.
