India’s medal tally reached 104 on the 14th day of the 19th Games in Hangzhou on Saturday. India’s archery contingent won two gold medals after Jyoti Surekha, Ojas Praveen Deotale finished on top in their respective women’s and men’s compound events. Meanwhile, in archery, Abhishek Verma got silver and Aditi Gopichand got bronze medal. Women’s Kabaddi team won the gold medal by defeating Chinese Taipei in the final. The men’s team also won another gold medal, defeating Iran in a controversial final.

Medal tally

The first medal of the day was Aditi Gopichand Swami’s bronze in women’s individual compound archery. She defeated Ratih Fadhli of Indonesia 146-140 in the bronze medal match.

Jyoti won the gold medal in the same event with a stunning 149-145 win over Chaewon So of South Korea.

Shortly after, India registered a one-two in archery as Ojas Deotale won the gold medal with a 149-147 win against his compatriot Abhishek Verma in the men’s compound final.

India’s medal tally of 100 came through the women’s kabaddi team which defeated Chinese Taipei 26-25 in the final. The medal tally will increase further when the men’s cricket and Kabaddi matches end.

Kabaddi final

There was huge drama during the men’s Kabaddi final as play between India and Iran was suspended due to an argument over Pawan Sehrawat’s raid.

The India vs Iran men’s Kabaddi final at the Asian Games 2023 was marked by a significant controversy on Saturday, October 7.

There was chaos in the final moments of the second half of the match when Indian team’s Pawan Sehrawat was sent off and Iran secured a point. However, Pawan protested that he was out of bounds without touching. This was followed by a review, where India asked for four points, while Iran asked for Pawan’s point. One point each was given in the preliminary decision, due to which Iran’s Pawan and Bastami were declared out.
