Asante Samuel: Dropped interception| Interceptions| Biography
Former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel received the most brutal reaction after his son, Asante Samuel Jr., failed to lose to the Chargers 27-24 on “Thursday Night Football.”
Dropped interception
Asante Samuel knows a thing or two about making big plays in serious situations in a game. The four-time Pro Bowl cornerback once led the league in interceptions in 2006 and ’09 and earned two Super Bowl appearances with the Patriots during his NFL career.
But in Thursday night’s football in the Chargers’ 27-24 defeat, it was Samuel’s son, Asante Jr., who needed to come up with a monumental game that could have turned the game’s outcome.
Interceptions
As the Chargers took a 17-7 lead in the third quarter, Samuel nearly came on with an interception on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but failed to fully secure the ball. While officials initially considered the game to be an interception, the call was reversed as the ball struck Asante Jr.’s knee and hit the ground.
The elder Samuel tweeted the perfect response to his son dropping the ball and not taking advantage of the opportunity.
