Belgian goalkeeper Arne Espeel, a player of football winkel Sport B, died after allegedly falling to the ground after saving a penalty kick.
Cause of death
The major cause of death of Arne Espeel is collapsing on-field after saving a penalty. He died suddenly while playing for Winkel Sport B, seconds after saving a penalty for the club.
Winkel Sport B play in the second provincial division of West Brabant in Belgium and were playing against Westrozebeke in Sint-Alois-Winkel, Winkel’s home ground in the province of West Flanders, when tragedy struck.
Winkel Sport were leading 2–1 when their opponents were awarded a penalty in the second half. Emergency services immediately moved in to help Aspiel, doing all they could to save him, including using a defibrillator.
25-year-old was declared dead soon after being taken to the hospital. A report by Flemish news outlet Het Nieuwsblad said more than 1,000 people turned up to pay tribute to Espel on Monday evening.

Robbie Starbuck claimed on Twitter that Arne Aspil’s death was “not normal” and urged major sports leagues to investigate the young athlete’s sudden death.
Obituary
The Belgian club released a statement saying, “Winkel Sport is in deep mourning over the sudden passing of goalkeeper Arne Aspiel. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Arne’s family and friends on this enormous loss. Football is on the back burner for a while.” taking a seat
Winkel Sport B’s assistant Stefan Deverchin said: “The ball was still in play. Our goalkeeper got up as quickly as possible to get the ball, but then he fell. It was really terrible to see. All the players showered together after the incident . When the news came that our goalkeeper was dead, it was an unusually heavy blow. I think some of the players still haven’t quite understood what had happened.”
