Meaning of Archery:
The game of archery is the art of propelling arrows with the use of a bow. Historically it was an important skill and used for both hunting and in warfare, however with the introduction of firearms towards the end of the medieval period, its use began to decline.
It was pursuit though many people still hunt with a bow and arrow, believing it to be more sporting than using a gun.
History of Archery:
This instrument used as a hunting weapon, and archery continued to be practiced as a sport in England by both royalty and the general public.
Archery Generation
The generation of archery start from the 16th and 17th centuries. The kingdom of wales became the patron of the Toxophilite Society in 1787 and set the prince’s lengths of 100 yards used in the British men’s championship york round.
All the activities with the bow evolved into the modern sport of archery. During helding the Meeting of first Grand National Archery —the British championships—was held at York, and the Grand National Archery Society became the governing body of the sport in the United Kingdom.
The archery organization was the United Bowmen of Philadelphia, founded in 1828. In England, a middle-class recreation in 1879 eight of them formed the National Archery Association of the United States.
Due to the year of 1939 the National Field Archery Association of the United States was established to promote hunting, roving and field archery.
Most of Archers towards the world increased phenomenally after 1930, led by remarkable growth in the United States. By the late 20th century there were probably more than 10 million American participants in all forms of the sport and included those ranks who use the bow to hunt game; those who engage in shooting at targets of several kinds at various distances.

Bows
The Longbow
The Longbow is the most basic of bows. The English Longbow is pictured at right. The shape is unchanged from its invention approx. Nine thousnd to six thousand B.C.It is shaped from one piece of timber and the grip is usually made with a strip of leather bound around the bow. It is cut into the side of the bow for the arrow to rest on. There is no bow sight attached.
Shooting is done by aiming with the tip of the arrow at full draw. The point of aim will vary with the distance away from the target
Recurve
Recurve bows range in length from 1220mm (48 inches) to 1780mm (70 inches). All the bows will average about 1727mm (68 inches) in length.As a rough guide to choose the length of a bow to suit you, a person with a draw length of less than 710mm (28 inches) could use a bow between 1575mm-1675mm (62 – 66 inches) and a person with a draw length of more than 710mm (28 inches) could use a bow between 1575mm-1780mm (66-70 inches).
Compound
Compound bows can vary in length from 840mm to 1220mm (33 to 48 inches) measured from axle to axle. The smaller lengths are for juniors and the larger lengths are for adults.The riser is usually made from the alloy for strength. The limbs are fitted with an eccentric wheel.
Arrows
Shafts
Arrows can be made from wood, fibreglass, aluminium and carbon graphite. These arrows are made from extruded tubing to exact diameter and thickness. Each arrow is marked with a number e.g in the year of 2013 it means the arrow is 20/64th inch (7.94mm) diameter and 13/1000th inch (0.33mm) thick wall.
Nocks
These are made from rigid plastic and are glued to the rear of the arrow. The top row shown in the picture are used for aluminium arrows.
Fletches
The plastic in various shapes and sizes. fletches can be used, but are not as durable as the plastic fletches.
Arrow points
