Miami will try to return to No. 1 in Alabama after a 44-13 loss in week one. The Hurricanes struggled on both offense and defense earlier that season, but the Crimson Tide looked like the best team in the country at the start of the season.

The Hurricanes in week two against App State should be able to show what kind of team they are.

The Mountaineers began the 2021 season with a 33-19 win over East Carolina on Thursday, Sept. 2. In that game, Ape State displayed a balanced offense with quarterback Chase Bryce throwing for 259 yards and two touchdowns with receiver Thomas Hennigan pulling in a total of 114 yards and one touchdown. Nate Noel (126 yards) and Cameron Peoples (100 yards and two touchdowns) each broke the 100-yard run mark.

Vs UM

Miami have not lost a home opener since 2006, and have emerged victorious in their last 14 home openers – including a 31-14 win over UAB in the 2020 home opener.

• Since joining the UM staff as defensive coordinator in 2016 with Manny Diaz, the Hurricanes finished 4-1 at home in 2020 and are 24-6 in 30 regular season home games.

• App State has returned 10 defensive starts, seven offensive starts and 80 percent of letterwinners since 2020, including 14 “super seniors” who took advantage of an additional year of eligibility granted by the NCAA. Those 14 players have now played 466 games for App State combined and made 213 starts.

Vs Miami Predictions

Couldn’t tackle Miami in the secondary because it’s Alabama, or couldn’t it because it had a tough time?

The Appalachian state doesn’t care.

The climbers are going to run well—Nate Noel and Cameron Peoples each took off for 100 yards—and the defense will prevent Storm’s offense from dominating the game. There is everything to worry about, but…

Chase Bryce. He had a major problem with interceptions at Duke, and he threw one last week. He’ll be under the pressure of Hurricane D, he’ll throw a few picks, the turnover chain will come out, and that’ll be just enough for Miami to come out alive.

Game

Miami (FL) expected to work hard for it last week, and, well, they did. Things couldn’t have been worse for them as they lost 44-13 to the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Hurricanes were in a difficult position by half, with the score already sitting at 27-3. QB d’Eric King had a memorable game, but not in the way you’d like to remember: Despite a touchdown, he threw two interceptions and threw the ball once with only 179 yards to spare.

Appalachian State’s victory raised them 1–0 while a Miami (FL) loss lowered them to 0–1. We’ll see if the Climbers can repeat their recent success or reverse their fortunes by bouncing back to Miami (FL).
