Anthony Edwards (born August 5, 2001), nicknamed “Ant-Man” or simply “Ant”, is an American professional basketball player for the Minnesota Timberwolves of the National Basketball Association (NBA). A shooting guard, he played college basketball for the University of Georgia Bulldogs and was selected by the Timberwolves with the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft.
Injury status
On Thursday, Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Denver Nuggets in Game 6 of the second round of the NBA playoffs with a final score of 115–70. The Wolves forced a Game 7 with the win.
Edwards once again led the way for Minnesota, scoring 27 points on 8 of 17 shooting and 4 of 9 from three with four rebounds, four assists and two steals. His plus/minus was also 43.
In the third quarter of Game 6, Edwards suffered a terrible fall, injuring his back. After a few moments to collect himself, he was able to attempt his free throws. Edwards went to the locker room under his own power after the game.
Hurt
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards took a nasty fall Tuesday night, leaving him staggering.
Edwards suffered the injury when he tried to dunk Oklahoma City’s Kenrich Williams, drew a foul and lost his balance in the air. He landed on his right side and immediately writhed in pain, stayed down briefly and then required help from teammates to limp to the bench during a timeout.
Hearing chants of “MVP” from the crowd, Edwards rejoined the crowd and went back onto the court to shoot his free throws. The fourth-year guard went one of two, but barely made progress on the next three possessions, as the injury seemed to worsen and he began to strain his right hip. He was subbed out with 2:40 left in the quarter and the Thunder leading 76-72.
Edwards returned to the bench in the fourth quarter after receiving treatment in the locker room.
Minnesota won 106–103 but was unable to advance to the knockout rounds of the in-season tournament. The Timberwolves described the injury as a right hip injury during an in-game update on Edwards’ status.
Highlights
In an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Anthony Edwards explained what he thinks sets Nikola Jokic apart. Jokic’s Denver Nuggets are currently trailing the Minnesota Timberwolves 2-0 in the Western Conference Semifinals of the NBA Playoffs.
The Game 2 win, notably, came in the absence of Rudy Gobert and gave the Timberwolves a chance to upset the defending champions. Despite this, Jokic, who was not at his best in the two games, received special praise from the 22-year-old superstar. Edwards was asked what he thinks made the Serbian such a special player.
“I think the main thing about Jokic is nothing bothers him or at least he doesn’t show it,” Edwards said. “I think he’s hard to figure out and I know he comes to play every night, so if I’m like ‘By not coming to play we have a chance to lose that game.’
Fans will know exactly what Edwards means. Never looking troubled on or off the court, Jokic has already established himself as one of the best players of his generation, and there is still much to come from the three-time MVP.
