Coach

Amanda Anisimova’s coaching trials with Darren Cahill started off well as she won the WTA 250 warm-up event in Melbourne. This is his first and second career title after 2019.

“It’s an amazing feeling to start the year playing my first tournament with a title,” said the 20-year-old, who revealed her coaching collaboration with the highly experienced Cahill during the week.

“We are just starting out and getting to know each other,” she was quoted as saying before the final.

Anisimova indicated that the two had not yet agreed on whether this would extend through the season, but was “hopeful” that “it could become a long-term thing.”

Cahill, who lives in Adelaide, said that he was reluctant to travel full time when he stopped coaching Simona Halep. He has also coached other former No. 1s Andre Agassi and Lleyton Hewitt, and worked with many other ATP and WTA players.

Parents

Tragedy has struck 17-year-old rising American star Amanda Anisimova and her family.

The open court learned that Anisimova’s father and longtime coach Konstantin Anisimov was found dead on Sunday.

There is no concrete information available yet about what happened. It was not known that Anisimov was ill.

Apparently he was alone when he met.

Anisimov was to celebrate his 53rd birthday two days later, on 20 August.

(Her agent, Max Eisenbud, confirmed the news to ESPN’s Alyssa Roenigk late Tuesday, and IMG’s public relations department also confirmed it to Open Court).

Anisimov and wife Olga emigrated from Russia to the US in 1998 with their eldest daughter, Maria, who is also a tennis player but is now in the financial industry in New York. Anisimov was divorced in recent years.

Amanda was born three years later and, with her father as coach, quickly rose up the ranks and was a semifinalist at the French Open earlier this year.

Ranking

Amanda Anisimova is scheduled to play against Ashleigh Barty at the Australian Open on Sunday, 23 January. Here is an update about his live ranking.

Amanda Anisimova is currently ranked 60th with 1060 points and is the American number 12 position.

Ashleigh Barty, on the other hand, is currently ranked No. 1 and holds the Australian No. 1 position with 7111 points ahead of Ajla Tomljanovic, who has 1395 points and is ranked 43rd.

Vs sasnovich

World number 78 Amanda Anisimova will look to clinch her second career title against Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the final of Melbourne Summer Set 2 on Sunday.

Anisimova has struggled for form since reaching the Auckland semi-finals in 2020. But it appears that he has put his troubles behind, making a great start to the 2022 season. The former French Open semifinalist has sought guidance from renowned coach Darren Cahill, which is reflected in his performance this week.

Prior to Anisimova, Venus Williams was the youngest American woman to compete in the semifinals of a Grand Slam – she was runner-up at the 1997 US Open, per CNN. But at Roland Garros, where the French Open is held, Anisimova became the youngest American woman since Jennifer Capriati in 1990 to make the semi-finals. Now, Anisimova will take on Australian Ashleigh Barty in the last four, USA Today reported.

“I just played the best tennis of my life,” Anisimova said on Halep on her Yahoo! Play. “I don’t know how, and I don’t know how I did it, but it just happened.”

This is not the first time that Anisimova has proved herself to be a tennis star to watch. Below are seven things to know about Anisimova as she prepares for her next round of competition.
