The Alpe d’HuZes to Fight Cancer is a Dutch fundraising event in which people climb, usually by bike, six times a day. The mountain Alpe d’Huez is famous as one of the main Tour de France mountains in the Netherlands where Dutch cyclists have traditionally been relatively successful. The event is organized by Stitching Alpe d’Huzes, whose name is a combination of the name of Mount Alpe d’Huez and the Dutch word “zess” (six) and its motto is “Opgeven is Jean Opti” (leaving not an option).

Whisper it, but Geraint Thomas looks like he is the form that won him the 2018 Tour de France. The problem is that this time he has two superstars in front of him, Tadej Pogsar and Jonas Winggard, two men who are at least 10 years younger than him.

On stage 12, the Ineos Grenadiers rider would not have attacked, but deftly followed those from Tadej Pogsar (UAE Team Emirates), who remained in contention over the general classification, finishing third overall. He took 20 seconds over Romain Bardet (Team DSM) to leap onto the podium, trailing Pogsar by just four seconds. He may be 2-26 behind Jonas Winggaard (Jumbo-Visma), but he’s still in talks this bike race.

Four years earlier, when he won his Maillot Jaune, he won on the Alpe d’Huez. It didn’t have to be on Thursday, but it was still a good day for the Ineos Grenadiers to win via Tom Pidcock.
