College
Marpet enrolled at Hobart College after being asked to play football by Holy Cross, Fordham University and Marist College. He graduated in the spring of 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in economics and a minor in philosophy and public policy.
Hobart is a small private liberal arts college of 2,271 students in Geneva in Upstate New York. The school competes in NCAA Division III, which does not offer athletic scholarships. Only one other Hobart football player had been drafted by the NFL prior to Marpet—in 1937, when halfback Fred King was drafted and eventually played a game for the NFL’s Brooklyn Dodgers.
Marpet was not heavily recruited from high school by large collegiate programs. He weighed 250 pounds (110 kg) as a freshman, increasing his weight to 280 pounds (130 kg) by eating a diet of 7000–9,000 calories a day. ][26] He originally wanted to play both basketball and football in college.
Age
Marpet is just 28 years old and has just finished his first Pro Bowl season. He is arguably considered one of the top – if not the top – Buccaneers offensive linemen.
A source told ESPN that Marpet made the decision because of concerns about his overall health.

Marpet played college football at Hobart College, a small liberal arts college with 2,271 enrollments. In 2014, he was Lindy’s President All-American First Team, American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American, D3football.com All-America First Team, and Liberty League Co-Offensive Player of the Year.
He featured in the 2015 Senior Bowl as the first NCAA Division III player selected to play in the All-Star Game. Sports Illustrated named Marpett “the biggest riser” in the sport, and included him on its all-offence team. In the February 2015 Scouting Combine, he scored the 2015 NFL Draft (4.98), fastest 10-yard (9.1 m) split (1.74 seconds), and second-most in three-cone drills (7.33) and 20-yard shuttles (4.47). Good timing, scoring the highest “Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction and Quickness” (Spark) scores. He also performed 30 repetitions in the bench press at 225 pounds (102 kg), tied for fifth best among offensive linemen. He also had a vertical jump of over 30 inches, and a Wonderlik Test Intelligence score of over 30 (90th test percentile; 50 possible). The measure indicates top echelon intelligence among NFL players.
Draft
A college offensive tackle, Ali Marpet dominated the Liberty League and allowed zero sacks in 2014. He projects best on defense in the NFL with his size and length, and when you look at his movement skills, it’s easy to put a marpet in a power or field plan. Marpet stood out in the Senior Bowl and took over Division I athletes after playing in Division III for most of his career. He is agile and can easily reach another level. He has achieved success there by applying his length and hand. Marpet could play guard or center in the NFL and could also hit a tackle in a pinch. Marpet is likely a huge upside that could be further compounded with NFL coaching and strength training.

The Buccaneers guard announced via Instagram on Sunday that he was retiring from the NFL. The 28-year-old Marpet was a pro bowler in his seventh season in 2021.

Retiring

The move was unexpected, as Marpet made a consistent and solid showing for the Buccaneers, starting all 101 games of his career. Marpet made his first Pro Bowl appearance since the 2021 season.
