Contract
Nashville Predators President/GM of Hockey Operations David Poil announced today that the team has signed defenseman Alexander Carrier to a three-year contract worth $700,000 in the NHL or $125,000 in the AHL in 2020-21 , $750,000 in the NHL or $175,000 in the AHL in 2021-22, and $750,000 in the NHL or $200,000 in the AHL in 2022-23.
Carrier, 23 (10/8/96), was on pace to post the best statistical season of his professional career before the AHL’s suspension of play on March 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In just 55 games in 2019-20, the Blueliners produced the exact same number of goals and assists (5g-32a-37pts), compared to their 76 games in 2018-19. A career 32 assists this season is good for the top spot among Milwaukee skaters, and his 37 points total put him first among the Admirals’ defensemen. He is fifth in the AHL in blueliner assists.
Injury
During his final junior season with the Olympics, Carrier was signed to his first NHL contract, agreeing to a three-year entry-level deal with the Predators on November 12, 2015. [3] Limited to 57 games with Gatineau in the 2015–16 season, Carrier added his previous goal with 12 and contributed 47 points before a second-round loss after the season.
In his first professional season and after attending Predators training camp, Carrier was tasked with starting the 2016–17 season with the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL. The career made a seamless transition in the AHL ranks, with the Admirals defense scoring and earning selections in the AHL All-Star Game before receiving its first NHL recall on January 13, 2017. [4] He made his NHL debut with the Predators in a 1–0 shutout loss to the Vancouver Canucks on January 21, 2017. [5] He was returned to the Admirals after two scoreless games with Nashville.
Dobber
His skill set indicates that he can be a premium offensive defender in the making, and one of the best-prospect defensemen only in a Dynasty league. Devil’s Prospect has great power-playing quarterback ability, which places him in the top 15.
Owen Powers, LD – Buffalo Sabers
August Ranking: 20th
The first overall pick of 2021 appears in the top 20 primarily because of its impressive mix of size, skating and skill. He closes gaps and pinches efficiently when opposing forwards who break out of his zone, while being able to pass and shoot at a very good level. His vision and decision-making ability can at times falter and he can put himself in unfortunate situations with a few mistakes being made with the board, but the power play is generally mature and composed.
