Why is not playing

Alex Morgan: Why is not playing| Why is not on the uswnt roster

Morgan is a superstar striker who has proven himself over the years and his experience and leadership work as an asset for any team. But her NWSL season got off to a slow start: she missed more than a month with the San Diego Wave after injuring her left ankle on April 19, although she has since returned.

Morgan’s lack of versatility may also be a factor in Hayes’ decision. Morgan has long been an expert striker, scoring 123 goals as the USWNT’s fifth all-time leading goalscorer. But with that expertise also comes a lack of experience in other positions, as some players were called up for the tournament.

Hampered somewhat by her club team’s stagnant approach to possession, Morgan did not enjoy the same amount of service in the box. He has yet to take a single shot inside the six-yard box in the 2024 season, leading to a sharp decline in his expected goals per shot, and only six of his 20 shot attempts this season have been taken on his stronger left foot.
