Alex Leatherwood (born January 5, 1999) is an American football offensive tackle for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football in Alabama, where he was a two-time CFP national champion and winner of the 2020 Outland and Jacobs Blocking trophies. Leatherwood was selected by the Las Vegas Raiders in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but was later released. His rookie season.

It’s clear that things aren’t working out for Alex Leatherwood and the Las Vegas Raiders. During Tuesday’s practice, Jermaine Alumnor worked ahead of Leatherwood, despite injuries to both Brandon Parker and Thayer Munford.
So if Leatherwood isn’t making the team’s opening perfect match in week 1, is there any chance he’ll drop off the roster entirely? Because the closer we get to the season, the better the chances that he is not on the team.
With three years remaining on his deal at very manageable prices, Leatherwood may be of interest to many teams in the NFL. He was regarded as a draft prospect and there are not many players with his size and athleticism.

19 overall by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2021 NFL Draft, offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood was always seen as a reach. While the former Alabama standout played well in college, he was seen as a tackle/guard tweener leading up to the annual event.
Leatherwood’s selection was seen as another lapse from the former reigns of Raiders head coach John Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock. It’s official now.
Draft
Alabama signed Leatherwood as a five-star, top-10 overall prospect from Booker T. Washington High School in Florida, where he played for former Florida quarterback and 1993 Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward. He enrolled in one semester in early 2017 and ended up playing seven games as a reserve for the fallen national champions. Jumping into the starting lineup on right guard for all 15 competitions in 2018, he took second-team All-SEC honors. Leatherwood moved to left tackle for his junior season, replacing first-round pick Jonah Williams. League coaches voted him to a first-team all-conference for his efforts. SEC coaches not only reiterated that honor to Leatherwood throughout his senior campaign, but voted him and his teammate, center Landon Dickerson, as co-winners of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy (the convention’s top offensive lineman).

As Alex Leatherwood mentioned earlier, Jerry and the staff don’t shy away from taking risks and giving them a second chance. In a typical situation where we’re comfortable with building wide receiver rooms, one could pass Josh Gordon, however, for the Cowboys, who only work one wide on the roster, they’d only ever have an NFL touchdown. Well, it would be wise for the team to put all the options on the table. Gordon will inject big-play potential immediately and if nothing can act as a stop gap until Michael Gallup regains his form. Like many of these players have been released and we’ve discussed here before, none of these look perfect, but if the Cowboys play their cards right they can make much-needed improvements to their roster during this time.
