Lady Cathy Ferguson, the wife of former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and the woman he called his “foundation”, has died aged 84. Glasgow native Cathy Holding met her future husband while they were working together in a typewriter factory in 1964.

Ferguson was appointed manager of Manchester United in November 1986. During his 26 years with Manchester United he won 38 trophies, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two UEFA Champions League titles.
