Former NFL and USFL running back Alex Collins, who played five seasons for the Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens, was killed in a motorcycle accident in South Florida, officials said. He was 28 years old.
Collins was driving a motorcycle that collided with a sport-utility vehicle Sunday night in Lake Lauderdale, Florida, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The SUV was turning left when Collins’ motorcycle struck its rear passenger side. The sheriff’s office said the collision caused Collins to lean out the SUV’s window and come to rest inside the vehicle. Collins was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the SUV driver, whose name was being withheld, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Collins played five seasons in the NFL between 2016–2018 and 2020–21 with the Ravens and Seahawks. He then played the 2023 USFL season with the Memphis Showboats.

Investigators say Collins was riding his motorcycle late Sunday night when he collided with the rear passenger side of an SUV on West Oakland Park Boulevard in Lakes Lauderdale Florida. Upon impact, Collins went through the rear passenger side window and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Collins was drafted by the Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of the University of Arkansas. Released after one season with Seattle, he signed with the Ravens’ practice squad and was eventually named the starter.
In his first season with Baltimore in 2017, Collins finished with 973 rushing yards and six touchdowns. The following year, he started in 10 games, rushing for 411 yards and seven touchdowns, before suffering a season-ending foot injury.
He did not play in 2019 but returned to the Seahawks in 2020–2021 which would be his final stint in the NFL.
Overall, Collins played five seasons in the NFL, tallying 483 carries for 1,997 yards and 18 touchdowns, as well as an additional 467 receiving yards in 50 career games.
Most recently, Collins played last season with the Memphis Showboats of the United States Football League.
