2022 contract

Albert Pujols: 2022 contract| Lifetime earnings| Home runs

According to John Heyman of MLB Network, this is a $2.5 million one-year deal for Pujols. They have several incentives included in this contract. He can earn an additional $100,000 if he is named All-Star, Gold Glover or NL MVP. Pujols will receive $50,000 if he is the recipient of the Silver Slugger or if he does not win the prize if he finishes inside the top 10 of the National League MVP race.

While most of those honors are pipe dreams outside of a career All-Star nod, the real money he could earn is based on the Cardinals’ later performances. He will receive $50,000 if he is the MVP of his NLDS Series, $50,000 if he wins the NLCS MVP for the Redbirds and $150,000 if he wins the World Series MVP and goes on top of his amazing career as a three-time champion.

John Heyman of MLB Network reported that Pujols’ one-year deal with St. Louis is equivalent to a base salary of $2.5 million. The contract also reportedly includes additional incentives for regular-season and post-season awards.

Based on that number, Pujols is set to end his career with an estimated $341.71 million in earnings over the course of 22 seasons, per Spottrack.

In his first round with the Cardinals, Pujols earned a total of $114.42 million over 11 years. He signed a monster deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2012, which earned him $224.36 million over nine seasons. He played the 2021 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers and earned $426,313.

Home runs

However, he has a chance to pass the bond for a different record.

Pujols hit home run number 687 off Austin Gomber on Wednesday, after Pujols dismissed him for the first time in his career. He has now made 448 different pitchers in his career, one shy of Bonds’ record 449.

Since Pujols spent the back half of his career in the American League, he could reach 450 different pitchers for the rest of the year, mainly facing National League pitchers.

So, as the future Hall-of-Famer ends his career, there is a more realistic record to watch than his bid to reach 700 home runs before the end of the year.
