The Alabama Crimson Tide football program represents the University of Alabama (variously Alabama, UA or Bama) in the game of American football. The team competes in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Western Division of the Southeast Conference (SEC). The team’s head coach is Nick Saban, who has led the Tide to six national championships during his tenure. The Crimson Tide is one of the most storied and decorated football programs in NCAA history. Since its start in 1892, the program claims 18 national championships, including 13 wire-service (ap or coach’) national titles in the pole-era and five before the election-era. Other titles included. From 1958 to 1982, the team was led by Hall of Fame coach Paul “Bayer” Bryant, who won six national titles with the program. Several national and conference championships were held. Regardless, it wasn’t until 2009 that an Alabama player received the Heisman Trophy, becoming the university’s first winner when Mark Ingram II went back. In 2015, Derrick Henry became the university’s second Heisman winner. The Crimson Tide won back to back Heisman trophies in 2020 and 2021 with Devonta Smith and Bryce Young.

Alabama star quarterback Bryce Young (shoulder) is “expected to start” Saturday afternoon in a significant showing at No. 3 Crimson Tide with No. 6 Tennessee, ESPN’s Pete Thamel said on GameDay Saturday morning. Thamel revealed that if all goes well in the pregame warmup, the current Heisman Trophy winner will play for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama coach Nick Saban expects Young to be in the lineup, with the final determination to be made after the pregame warmup.
“We’ll find out in the pregame,” Saban told Dennis Dodd at CBS Sports HQ about Young’s situation. “He’s been able to do some exercises this week. We’ll see if he has arm strength and see what his pain tolerance is, although I think [the pain] is going to go away. We won’t know until then.” We don’t go out in the pregame.”
Young was dressed but did not play in last week’s 24-20 win over Texas A.
