Drug test
Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown had a great performance in Sunday’s 34-31 overtime win over the Washington Commanders, but the NFL clearly wanted to make sure nothing went wrong.
According to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports, Brown was one of the Eagles players selected for random drug testing after recording nine catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday’s win.
Sunday’s performance was Brown’s second consecutive 100-yard game after stopping short of the century mark in Philadelphia’s first two games of the season. He averaged 19.4 yards per reception. This was his first time reaching the end zone this season and he did so in spectacular fashion both times.
Brown’s first touchdown came on a 59-yard connection from quarterback Jalen Hurts, who weaved his way through Washington defenders and scored. His second score came with less than two minutes remaining to break the 24–24 tie.
Taunting penalty
Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports reported that Brown and safety Reed Blankenship were “randomly” drug tested after the game. But, as Brown admitted after the game, he made a mistake and was flagged for taunting after his second score. The penalty helped the Commanders take the field to tie the game and force overtime.

AJ Brown and the Philadelphia Eagles improved their 2023 record to 4-0 with a win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Brown had an impressive performance against Washington, tallying nine receptions for 175 yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles’ 34–31 overtime victory.
After the game, according to Josh Tolentino of the Philadelphia Inquirer, some fans became suspicious after learning that Brown was “randomly” selected for drug testing by the NFL.
Some fans noted the league’s alleged history of immediately drug testing players after a big game.
Sunday’s performance was really impressive for AJ Brown. The most impressive of his nine catches occurred late in the fourth quarter, when he caught a contested touchdown pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts to give the Eagles a 31–24 lead. Unfortunately, Brown did not make the best decision immediately after the catch, earning himself a holding penalty and giving the Commander 15 yards on their ensuing drive, which would result in a score to send the game into overtime.
