His latest victory is the country’s third Olympic gold medal win in swimming in history and the first African and Arab gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics.

The teenage swimming athlete said on Sunday: “I can’t believe it, it’s amazing. I felt better in the water this morning than yesterday and that’s it. I’m an Olympic champion now,” according to the Tokyo Olympic website.

As much as they certainly believed in him, even Ahmed Hafnoui’s family would have to admit that they weren’t expecting him to take home gold in the 400m freestyle.

The 18-year-old from Tunisia stunned the world by winning gold from lane 8, the slowest of eight qualifiers for the final. He was .14 seconds away from missing.

There’s no better way to cheer up such an epic victory. Hafnaoi let one into the pool and his family matched it with their screams on video. It’s a good thing someone thought of recording it, otherwise that wonderful moment couldn’t have been shared with the world.
