For match simulations and intraclub trials, players finally got their chance to hit out against the opposition, who aren’t just teammates, and Toyota AFL Fantasy coaches capitalized on every second of it.
While these practice matches were a gateway to the AAMI Community Series, seeing potential fantasy recruits in a competitive match fueled the appetite for the coming season and helped confirm some ideas ahead of the Round One lockout.
2022 kayo
The AFL is pleased to announce that Kayo Sports will stream all 2022 AFL pre-season practice matches to be played exclusively on Wednesday, February 23 – Saturday, February 26.
Each team will participate in a pre-season practice match as determined by the AFL. These match-ups are listed below and will see teams decide on the format of each game, including the number of players, the number of quarters, and the length of the quarters.
AFL Head of Broadcasting and Scheduling Marcus King said that these practice matches play an important role for both AFL clubs and supporters.
“We are delighted to partner with Kayo, who will be broadcasting all pre-season practice matches live in 2022,” King said.
“Two of our objectives for pre-season practice matches are to give clubs the best opportunity to prepare ahead of the AAMI Community Series and where possible to take matches to supporters in local and regional communities.
“The practice matches will see football played across the country, including at regional and suburban venues such as Lavington Oval in Albury and Morwell Recreation Reserve, where fans will be able to watch their teams in action in their backyards.”
2022
The two South Australian sides are the only teams scheduled to travel for a round of fixtures, with Adelaide facing Brisbane and Port Adelaide as part of a double-header at the Metricon Stadium on Friday, 25 February. Gold Coast to play.
Essendon will host the Western Bulldogs on Wednesday, February 23 at 3 p.m. AEDT, to begin a slate of unofficial fixtures, while Carlton will host St Kilda at Icon Park on Thursday.Full Details Kayo Sports to Stream AFL Pre-Season Practice Matches
Premier Melbourne host North Melbourne at Casey Fields on Thursday, before the double-header in Queensland begins at 10 a.m. local time on Friday.

Collingwood and Hawthorne will meet that Friday at Morwell Recreation Reserve, southeast of Victoria, while Sydney and Greater Western Sydney will battle at Lavington Sports Ground on Friday evening.
West Coast and Fremantle will also meet on Friday night at Mineral Resources Park, with their games so far the only fixtures currently to be played behind closed doors.
Geelong and Richmond will meet at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday to wrap up the week’s action, before the AFL’s sanctioned pre-season fixtures officially begin on Thursday, March 3 for the AAMI Community Series.
